In the wake of the recent porn ban in India, various sections of the society has rued how the nation that once invented the Kama Sutra is now banning porn.
So, what’s gone wrong?
How much truth lies in the statement? According to American Indologist, Wendy Doniger, who is a professor at the University of Chicago the book needs to be accorded the distinction of being a literary landmark of India’s culture. Professor Doniger has almost half a dozen books on Hinduism and has a deep understanding of the religion.

His reasons for believing so come from a variety of factors. Owing to the fact that the Kama Sutra was written in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India, and the book is considered to be the greatest book ever written about love and sex — it should be held in high regard by the Indian society.
Simply searching Kama Sutra yields over 16 million search results in under a second yet the Indian society does not hold the book in high regard.
So, why do people shy from sex when they are okay with Kama Sutra?
One of the prime reasons for this is the misinterpretation of many texts and the concept of sex being dirty in the country, leading to people being embarrassed when the topic of sex crops up.
