Artificial intelligence (AI) will transform how we look at life. It is a disruptive technology - aimed at making machines smarter. Take this example-
4 — 16
9 — 81
7 — 49
3 — ?
How did you calculate “9?”
We are trying to teach machines the answer — on their own. They wouldn’t need human help anymore — and be able to ‘think’ on their own. Another aspect that goes hand in hand with AI is machine learning. We give machines access to data, and they learn by themselves. The AI-powered the autonomous vehicle is one classic example.
The power of AI has been used to drive many applications, programs and devices which promise to change the way we live. From predicting customer preferences to route traffic in a city, AI has found many crucial uses.
We are going to explore the applications that have unlocked the power of AI.
Civic Amenities
AI and machine learning can help manage a city better by predicting areas where infrastructure or repair are required to improving project management to automating mass transit to enhancing contractor coordination. It can optimize the movement of a wide range of elements from goods to cars and increase efficiency while cutting costs.
Kansas City in Missouri is using AI and machine learning to predict the development of potholes. Pittsburg is installing AI based intelligent traffic lights that use sensors and cameras to account for real-life road conditions and control traffic than changing at intervals.
Gathering data on candidates
Most companies are unable to recruit the correct candidate because they lack useful information about them. Because recruiters don’t have intelligence on them, they aren’t able to differentiate on the candidates during the screening process. Companies send a lot of money on finding information on potential candidates during every recruitment effort, but after the process is over, the data collected can’t be saved for further use.
Not automating recruiting process 35 per cent costlier than having one. Companies who’ve automated use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), an AI-driven software where recruiters can store information about potential candidates they came across and can consider for future hires. Recruiting managers don’t need to start from scratch. The software also gives them an opportunity to focus on understanding and interacting with candidates. ATS is to recruiting what CRM is to sales.
Personal Voice Assistants
It gathered steam back in 2015 when Google developed an AI agent who could interact with humans and also provide the support of a help desk. It also could make conversation, express opinions and talk on abstract subjects. For example-
“What is the purpose of life?”
AI agent: “To serve the greater good.
Today we have the likes of Siri and Alexa who can play your favorite songs and forecast the weather for you. Dominos is using an AI-powered chatbot who can suggest you toppings and take your order for a pizza.
Autonomous Vehicle
We are arriving to a time when a driverless car would come to pick you up and drive you safely to your destination. Google has just received the green signal to test their autonomous robotic cars in California and can cruise the roads at 65 mph.
Tesla cars have received accolades for their AI driven self-driving options, predictive capabilities and technological prowess. The firmware even gets updated over the air!
Businesses
The application of AI in business remains widespread.
Mastercard has used it for fraud management and able to cut down the rate of false declines by 80%. Organizations are using cybersecurity solutions based on AI and machine learning to monitor network and accessories for abnormal behaviour and spot irregularities for a proactive approach.
Amazon uses it to predict what customers are more likely to buy and recommends them those products.
